Established in 1926, Coral have been one of the largest bookmakers in the UK for not much shy of a century now. Whilst they are now firmly recognised as a worldwide brand, the bookmakers still lies pretty true to their roots with their main offices being situated in their country of origin.
Over the extensive lifespan of the company, the biggest change has come from the acquisition of Gala, a UK based gambling corporation, to form a multimillion pound business. Whilst not always one of the first names you think of when it comes to bookmaking, Coral are actually about as complete as you are going to find in the industry and have worked hard over the years to increase not only online exposure, but also more recently, mobile coverage.
What Coral have always been very consistent at is providing their users with some excellent promotions. Their sign up bonus rings true for this and you can pick up a £/€20 free bet when you deposit just £/€5. This essentially works out as a 400% match on your first deposit, but it does limit those looking to deposit more to claim a bigger bonus as £/€20 is the max that you can claim.
All qualifying bets must be made at odds of 1.50 or greater and you get 14 days from opening your account to qualifying for the promotion. You then will be required to place your bet within 7 days of it becoming active on your account. The promotion is only available to betters from the UK and Ireland and any winnings received will not include your stake or the free bet back. The free bet must be wagered in full and you can't break it down into smaller bets. That being said, you can wager it on pretty much all bet types from singles, doubles, trebles accumulators and upwards of that.
As we mentioned, Coral have become synonymous with offering a vast range of other promotions once you have registered your account. In fact, we will go as far as saying that they are one of best when it comes to customer retention in this manner.
The most common will be in the form of money back specials and these can range for each sport. A current promotion and pretty standard example that they are currently running is money back if England beat Uruguay in the World Cup group game on all first and last goalscorer markets. These will vary for each sport and horse racing might be along the lines of money back on your horse if it loses by a head.
Golf is a sport that they seem to carry a fair amount of promotions with and it makes Coral a bookmaker that you should definitely consider if this is a sport you like to bet on. They run different offers for pretty much all the PGA Tour and European Tour events but they really start to come into their own when it comes to the any of the four majors. Promotions include enhanced prices along with an increased amount of places paid out for each way betting.
Coral also include a best priced in the industry promotion with horse racing, although many bookmakers do this and you will find that whilst they are indeed top price, so are several others.
As with any top betting site these days, Coral have backed up their sports betting section with a host of features that we have covered below.
Betting Odds and Markets
Their betting markets are probably the most improved section of their bookmaker. They cover a really strong range of sports from American Football to UFC, but what's been impressive to see is how well they are covered. Granted, not all sports get the attention of your football or horse racing markets which are clearly their top sports, but most will include a pretty strong range of markets to pick from.
What was particularly impressive is their coverage of special events taking place. It just so happens that the World Cup is taking place when writing this review and they have included a World Cup Centre that gives you all the latest odds, news and information you need to make an informed pick. Whilst the World Cup is going to be a pretty one off competition, they do include dedicated sections for other competitions such as major horse racing meetings, football events, golf majors and the Olympics.
Their odds are pretty steady as well. They probably won't blow your socks off in terms of being the best priced throughout each sport, but they won't be too far away. As we mentioned earlier they run a lot of price enhancements for major events, so that’s definitely something to look out for.
Their app has come a long way from its almost shambolic first draft just a few years ago. It now functions very well and includes all the betting markets that you can get from their online bookmaker. There's not much that the app offers that the online bookmaker doesn’t, but we will say that it's clean, concise and also doesn’t strain too much on that valuable mobile browsing data.
Like a lot of bookmakers, Coral have a dedicated section for the live betting and you can a really good range of sports from it. We liked the fact that you could see upcoming betting markets as well as those ongoing so you can plan your bets in advance. Unfortunately no match centre or anything to really see what's going on in the match, so if you aren’t watching it live, it will be tough to use.
A live streaming service is on offer from Coral and allows you to watch games from football, tennis, snooker, rugby and basketball from your PC as long as you have a positive balance. You can also stream direct from your mobile device but only football and tennis are currently on offer.
At Coral casino you will become eligible to take advantage of their bet £10, get £50 in bonus money. The process is pretty simple; all you need to do is make your first deposit at the site of £10 or more and then the £50 bonus will be credited to your account. It’s worth noting that you must click the ‘Claim Now’, which can be found in the ‘wallet’ section of your casino account.
If the bonus does not appear immediately in your account then Coral suggest to get in touch with customer support before making another deposit or playing any games and they will manually assign it to your account.
You will need to play through your bonus 24 times before being able to withdraw. Any withdrawal made prior to this timescale will void your bonus and any winnings from this. You will need to work through the entirety of the bonus within 28 before it will expire, along with any winnings. Slots will count 100% towards your clearing process, whilst black, roulette, craps, sic bo and Keno will count 20% towards it all.
At coral you will be able to take advantage of their live casino offer which means a £50 (or currency equivalent) bonus will be applied to your account when you make a first deposit of £50 or more. You will need to play through the full £50 forty times before being able to withdraw. Any withdrawal made prior to this will void your bonus, and on top of that you will have to clear the full amount within 28 days.
By registering any credit or debit card with Coral casino you will be able to claim their free £10 casino bonus when you make your opening deposit of just £5 or more. It comes with a 50 times rollover requirement and also 7 days in which to clear the full amount. But, it does run alongside the sign up offer, meaning you can essentially claim both.
Software and Games
Coral casino works closely with one of the biggest games providers in the industry, Playtech. With this comes a plethora of games to choose from that are not only jam packed with features, but also are updated on a regular basis making it one of the most exciting software operators in the industry.
The casino is essentially browser based, but it does allow you to download their ‘Coral App’ to a Windows computer. Mac users, however, will have to go without, but the layout and design for each is exactly the same. One thing we will note is that due to the number of Java scripts that run on the casino, we had to disable ad-blockers to make it function properly.
The casino is available on all mobile operating systems as well. There isn’t actually a dedicated casino app as such, but this section can be accessed via the sports betting app, which actually is a good thing, keeping everything under one roof. The app itself allows you to access all the games and features that you would find from the browser based casino, apart from the fact that they have been optimised for mobile screens from as early as the iPhone 4s up to the latest 6+ model. No information was apparent with regards to Android, although we would guess that it were much the same, due to its popularity and success.
As with most online casinos, variants of roulette and blackjack are the most popular table games on offer and these do make up the bulk of this section. On top of these however, you get 3 card brag, baccarat, Hold Em, Caribbean Stud, Craps, Pai Gow Poker, Red Dog, Sic Bo, Stravaganza, Tequila Poker and VIP games.
The slots section is the busiest and most impressive feature for Coral. You’re getting over 125 titles to choose from, all of which coming from the Playtech software mentioned earlier. Coral have also included a number of branded titles such as Kong, X-Men, Iron Man 2, Spider Man and Rocky.
Jackpot games are also a firm favourite with the casino and you can expect to see anything in the range of £100,000 to upwards of £1,000,000 for some of the more expansive titles.
At Coral you will be able to take advantage of their spend £5, play with £30 promotion. The offer essentially gives you an additional £25 to play with when you make your first deposit and play through £5 worth of bingo cards. To withdraw any winnings from the bonus money you will need to play through your bonus amount twice. You will get 7 days in which to use your bonus money and 30 days to initially trigger your bonus from registering your account.
Coral bingo have made the first 7 days at their bingo hall the most lucrative by offering up to £10,000 in prize money for each and every player. Essentially what they are doing is giving you free reign of the Farley and Carly Room with up to £8,000 on offer. The games for each are free to enter and will payout a maximum of £25 for each. On top of that you will also be able to access the Allsorts Room between noon – 2pm and 6pm – 8pm, offering up a further £2,500.
One of the most recent additions to the Coral Bingo armoury has been the introduction of their Night Owl promotion. They have added an extra £10,000 to the prize pool of games ran between midnight and 6am to entice people to play at less sociable hours. Due to the fact that very few people work the traditional 9-5 these days, it makes sense to offer up this market and the additional money can be found directly from the Megamax Room throughout a selection of different bingo games.
Software and Games
The Coral Bingo software is powered by Virtue Fusion, who just so happen to the be the sister company of their casino software provider, Playtech. The integration of Virtue Fusion means that Coral can boast one of the biggest back catalogues of games in the industry. It also means that all their games are accessible via their mobile bingo app, which can be accessed from the sports betting app.
The bingo hall includes 40, 50, 75, 80 and 90 ball bingo variants, making it one of the more diverse mixes in the industry. Throughout each type is a series of rooms, often changing the game type ever so slightly and allowing new themes to be added as and when.
The welcome offer at Coral’s poker room is broken down into two sections. Well, it actually depends on how much you initially deposit as to which you will be eligible for. If you deposit just £5+ then you can claim up to £20 in tournament tokens. They are split up into 4 tokens of £5 each to be used in the tournament section of the poker room.
However, if you deposit £10+ then you will not only get the tournament tokens but you will also get a 100% match deposit bonus as well worth up to £200. The bonus will be paid into your account in increments of £5 for every 300 points you earn at the poker tables. You must clear the whole of your bonus within 90 days and you will be given 14 days to use your tournament vouchers. All bonuses and vouchers will be paid out in the currency equivalent amount as stated above.
Software and Games
Coral is powered by one of the biggest poker software companies in the world, iPoker. The software means that Coral can integrate a number of features into their poker room making it as advanced as you’re going to find. One of the main benefits to teaming up with iPoker has to be the player database, allowing games to run 24/7, 365 days a year.
You can access the poker room via your mobile by simply downloading the Coal sports betting app and selecting the poker option from there. Alternatively, they do offer a dedicated app called ‘Coral Poker Nobile’ which can be downloaded from the app store, but simply offers you the same product. One of the nice things about Coral is that you only need one account and one wallet to access each of their betting options.
The games on offer are relatively standard for a mid-sized poker such as Coral and with this you get a mix of Texas Hold’em, Omaha, Omaha Hi-lo along with a few mixed games, although traffic in the mixed games is fairly low, especially at off-peak times. But, Coral have introduced the Six Plus Hold’em game, which essentially removes cards ranked from 2-5 in the deck, to make a smaller deck of cards, but an increase in the quality of starting hands. A new concept, but one definitely worth trying!
Coral are one of the biggest betting operators in the UK. In fact, in 2005 the company merged with the Gala Group and from there have turned into the third largest bookmaker and bingo operator in the UK. In 2013 the company hit an all time high in terms of revenue seeing numbers upwards of £1.2billion. In the same year Coral also announced that employees from within the firm had surpassed the 20,000 mark for the first time ever.
The company originally started in 1926 by founder Joe Coral. Since then they now own over 1,800 betting shops across the UK and Hundreds throughout Italy, trading under the name Eurobet.
One of the bigger revelations over the last decade for the company has been the merge with Ladbrokes in 2015. Whilst the decision to merge with a rival betting company has gone pretty much under the radar for most, it has meant that the company, combined with two betting platforms, is now officially the largest bookmaker in the UK. The merge has however meant that the companies will keep their respected names, but from a business perspective, they will be known as Ladbrokes Coral.
Coral were also one of the first companies to apply for offices at the new Olympic Park in London. The decision to move here from it’s current head office in Barking, has been a sign of intent for the company in an attempt to cement their roots within the UK.
Banking & Payment Methods
A very solid range of banking methods are on offer and range from Credit cards to e-wallets. All the usual suspects are there but the inclusion of PayPal was a welcomed addition. We found banking to be swift and reliable with no charges for withdrawals or deposits. E-wallets are instantly credited for withdrawals, which credit and debit cards can take 3-5 working days, if not sooner.
Coral include a telephone number to get in touch with support 7 days a week between the hours of 7am and midnight GMT. On top of that, you can also take advantage of both email and live chat should your problem be a little less urgent.
